Hi, my name is Yvonne. I go to FCMS and I play the viola.

In my music project part 1, I had to choose a note that will be the foundation of my whole song. I eventually decided that the tonic, or starting note, will be E flat. With the note E flat, I began creating the major and minor scales and triads. To create the scales, I used the formula WWHWWH(major) and WHWWHWW(minor.) The formulas stand for the half steps and whole steps,or distances between the notes. As soon as I created the scales, I created the triads for all notes. Triads are chords of 3 notes essentially stacked on top of one another like a snowman

In part 2, I created the major and minor melodies. Both of these melodies began and ended with my tonic, E flat. I used skills such as appoggiatura and a cadence at the end. An appoggiatura is a tool music writers use in which you have a note, go down one note, up two notes, then to the original note. A cadence is when you use the 5th note or 7th note and go to the tonic. With these techniques and many more, I created my melody with only my scales and creativity.

Every melody needs a harmony! Therefore, after creating my melodies in part two, I added my harmony. In order to create my harmony, I used the triads I created in part 1 to determine sounds that will sound exceptionally well with the notes in each measure of my melody. I placed triads that correlated with the first note in each measure of the melody. I noticed that some parts in my melody sounded dull with a half note. This led me to using quarter, eighth, and sixteen notes in my harmony to created a type of conversation between the melody and harmony.
